FLEXI wins the First Stage of the Italian Platu 25 Circuit

 CALA DE’ MEDICI – After six very hard fought races, the German boat “Flexi” of Bogdhan and with Nikolas Ganssauge as skipper wins the First Stage of the Italian Platu 25 Circuit, followed by “Nanuk”, skipped by Luigi Ravioli.
Third place goes to Breakwind” of Giovanni Bocelli, with skipper Ugo Giordano, followed by Five for Fighting” of De Bellis and Masi, with skipper Alberto La Tegola and by “Jerry Speed” of Livia Federici, with skipper Luigi Masturzo.
After “Nanuk” had dominated yesterday’s races, reaching the top of the table, followed by “Flexi” at just one point, everyone was expecting a head to head between these two boats; and that’s exactly what we had, together with another head to head between Breakwind” and “Five for Fighting” for third place, which helped reach the climax in the level of competition.
All was still uncertain up to this morning, when the thirty boats got to the starting line at 9.30. Rain disturbed only the preparation phase, while the two races went on regularly with a wind of 12 knots. Congratulations to the Race Committee for their excellent work that allowed us to have six excellent races despite the bad weather conditions. All crews expressed their satisfaction during today’s prize-giving ceremony for the excellent outcome of the event.
“Flick-Bricofer” of Stefano Ferri (with Guglielmo), skipped by Tullio Daniele Nella, surprisingly won the first race, followed by “Breakwind” of Giovanni Bocelli, skipped by Ugo Giordano.
“Nanuk” of Gianrocco Catalano got third place, thus achieving a good advantage on the German boat that arrived only tenth.
“Breakwind” got third place, followed by “Jerry Speed” and “Five For Fighting”.
However, the German boat “Flexi” re-gained its advantage by winning the second race; thus the top of the table changed once again.. “Nanuk” got fourth, giving to “Flexi” the minimum advantage they needed. The final victory was won by adjudication, using the new method for calculating points based on the discarded result out of five races. “Flexi” discarded today’s tenth place, while “Nanuk” discarded its fifth place obtained last Friday. This brought to a final result with 13 points for each boat. Therefore, “Flexi” wins the First Stage of the Circuit, followed by “Nanuk” with the same points. “Breakwind” wins over “Five For Fighting” by getting second place in the second race, thus gaining other three points over “Five For Fighting” that arrived only fifth.
This is the end of three exciting days of great sailing (17-19 April 2009) that saw thirty Platu 25 boats from all over Italy, plus a German and Fin team in the waters of Cala De’ Medici.
This highly expected event represents the beginning of a very intense season for the Platu 25 Class: indeed, after Cala De’ Medici there will be Punta Ala (Gavitellp d’Argento from 29 to 31 May) and Monopoli near Bari (from 17 to 19 July), valid also for establishing the winner of the Italian Championship. The Italian Circuit will reach its climax with the World Championship that will be held in Punta Ala from 27 September to 3 October 2009.
