NETTUNO – Greek team “Modus Vivendi – 3Alfa” owned by Kostas Karageorgiou and steered by Panagiotis “Takis” Mantis, won the first leg of the “Platu 25 Italian Circuit OPEN” that took place in Nettuno from the 16th to the18th of April. The second place went to “Just a Coyote” of Paolo Morville followed by “Di Nuovo Simpatia” of Ferdinando Dandini De Sylva finishing third, scoring the same points with “Brera Hotels” of Alberto Wolleb and Emanuele Vitrano.
Twenty two crews joined in Nettuno, a beautiful seaside town between Rome and Naples, in order to compete the first leg of the “Platu 25 Italian Circuit OPEN 2010”, organised by the “Real Yacht Club Tevere Remo” in cooperation with the “Marina Nettuno Nautical Club”.
After three fantastic races on Friday, there was no wind at all on Saturday and Sunday. So, on Sunday afternoon the organizers confirmed the provisional results after only three races.
At the end, the Greek “Modus Vivendi – 3alfa” - that already won the 2008 Platu 25 World Championship in Eraklion – conquered the first Italian leg with a very good performance, taking a good distance of 7 points from “Just a Coyote”, second in the general Ranking and first of the Italians.
Even though only three races were completed, the technical level was very high and each race was very competitive.
As the winner Kostas Karageorgiou remarked:
It is always a pleasure to sail in Italy. The quality of both the competitors and organizers is remarkable. The championship started in the best possible way. We had three awesome races with wind speed of 8 to 12 knots. Perfect conditions. Unfortunately the next two days the breeze never built up to allow us to race again. But that’s sailing. We had the chance to test out new Montefusco sails though and that was very good for our preparation for Alicante. We also had the chance to meet with all our good friends. We never forget that Anzio was our first international regatta in the Platu25 class back in 2004!
Among the protagonists of this regatta, there should be a special mention of the Spanish “Xacobeo 2010 Galicia”. They scored two bullets and a second. But they lost a protest in the second start and were DSQ forcing them into 8th position. There was no way for the Spanish to recover during the next days. Despite the final result, they are very talented and determined, ready for the most important challenge of the Platu 25 Season: the World Championship in Alicante, South Spain, from the 18th to the 24th of July.
But before Alicante, there will be another good opportunity for the Platu 25 Italian crews to train and compete: from the 28th to the 30t of May there will be the “Gavitello d’Argento” in Punta Ala, coinciding with the Platu 25 Italian Circuit second Leg.
