The Austrian Thomas Laherstorfer’s “La Burra” won the 1st leg of the Platu 25 Alpen-Cup.
After five very competitive races, “La Burra”, the Austrian boat helmed by Thomas Laherstorfer, won the first leg of the “Platu 25 Alpen Cup” that took place on the Attersee Lake last week end (8-9 May). The second place was for “SUI 493” of Martin and Markus Sigrist, two Swiss brothers who won the “2009 Platu 25 Alpen Cup”. The third step on the podium was for “White Pearl” skippered by Michael Farthofer
Fourteen crews, coming from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, took part to the regatta that opened officially the racing season in Austria and that will culminate in a few days into the prestigious Traunsee week (13-16 May) with tens of crews of different classes coming from all over Europe.
Last Saturday was very cold with tricky and shifty winds (from 1-2 Bft) on the Attersee Lake. Two races were started, but only one could finish. The Austrian team “La Burra” won the first race followed by Swiss Racing Sailors “ Superbuesi-Team” and Austrian Team “White Pearl” of Michael Fahrthofer.
Sunday was a more lucky day: the thermal wind started on time at 11 o’ clock with 2-4 BFT from North. All four races were quickly competed. “Pirillina”, an Italian boat helmed by Claudio Fasoli won the first race, followed by Michael Farthofer and Thomas Laherstorfers. After that, there was an exciting competition between the Sigrist brothers and Michael Farthofer for the second place. At the end, thanks to the two first places signed by the Swiss team, Martin and Markus Sigrist obtained the second place, just one point before Farthofer’s “White Pearl”.
The sailing club Weyregg (SVWYS) who organised the event, did a great organizing job and was a very friendly host. Now the whole fleet is switching over to lake Traunsee were the “Central European Cup” (2nd Leg of “Platu 25 Alpen Cup”) will start on Thursday 13th May. About 20 Platu25 are expected.
The Traunsee Lake will host the 2011 Platu 25 World Championship.
