PUNTA ALA - After seven very competitive races, the Sicilian boat “Brera Hotels” of Wolleb and Vitrano won the “Gavitello D’Argento” the prestigious regatta that took place last week end in Punta Ala, Tuscany, from the 28th to the 30th of May. Wolleb and Vitrano won the prestigious prize for the second consecutive year, placing at a big distance (23 points) on the Spanish “Xacobeo Galicia” of David Louzao and Pepe Lis.
The third place was for “Mamic”, another Italian boat helmed by Jacopo Marello that concluded at just 2 points from the Spanish crew. For the Platu 25 Italian Class, the Gavitello D’Argento was also the second leg of the Platu 25 Italian Circuit OPEN started last April in Nettuno, near Rome.
“It was an exiting regatta, not as easy as we expected, because of the difficult weather conditions. Our strategy was aggressive when the situation needed it. We were cautious when we thought there were too many risks, and we were rewarded. After the disqualification during the 2009 World Championship, we wanted vey much to confirm the podium of the Gavitello D’Argento and the victory made us happy” said Emanuele Vitrano, owner of Brera Hotels together with Alberto Wolleb, vice president of the Platu 20 Italian Class.
“Brera Hotels” started winning from the very first day of races and it kept going pretty well in the following days: in seven races, two thirds places (one discarded) were the worst results for Vitrano and Wolleb. So, there wasn’t direct competition with the Spanish, the most frightful adversaries who are taking part in the 2010 Italian Championship for the second time in order to get ready for the World Championship in Alicante next July. The Spanish made definitely better during the previous regatta in Nettuno, when they dominated in almost all the races.
Twenty one crews took part in the second leg of the Platu 25 Italian Circuit OPEN and the regatta was a success. “Punta Ala confirmed itself one more time as a happy choice for the class, both for the regatta field and for the exceptionable organisation. We are going to fortify the relationship with the Yacht Club of Punta Ala: we’d like to organize here one of the next races of the 2011 Platu 25 Italian Winter Championship and, of course, we confirm our presence at the “Gavitello D’argento”, a regular appointment of the Platu 25 Italian Circuit” said a satisfied Edoardo Barni, President of the Platu 25 Italian and International class who made an appointment to all the Platu 25 crews in Alicante for the 2010 World Championship (www.platu25worlds2010.com).
For the Italians, the World Championship will coincide also the third leg of the Platu 25 Italian Circuit. For them, the last appointment, will be in Santo Stefano, Tuscany from the 30th of September to the 3rd of October for the fourth and last leg.
