Here we are: from today the 24th of July, the Platu 25 World Championships will take place in Alicante. After Vigo in 2006, Spain hosts for the second time a Platu 25 World Championship.
After the Spanish success in the World Football Championship in South Africa, Spain starts as favourite in the Platu 25 World appointment. Mexillón de Galicia-Movistar of the brothers Paz defends the title of World Champion in front of a fleet of eighty boats (about the provisional enrolment list).
The Spanish Champions have to compete with other very talented Spanish crews and with International Champions such as the Greek crew of “Modus Vivendi – 3 Alfa” owned by Kostas Karageorgiou, with Takis Mantis at the helm: they conquered the 2008 Platu 25 World Championship in Eraklion (Greece) and came second in the 2009 World Championship in Punta Ala.
German and Italian boats also will try to obtain good results, not leaving all the steps of the podium to the “Invincibile Armada” (the Spanish crews in Alicante will be around 40).
Today, Monday 19 July, there will take place the official training races starting from 15.00, while the official regatta will start tomorrow on Tuesday from 12.30. Today the crews are going to complete their inscriptions and competing their official training races. Today also we’ll know if the fleet will race as one fleet or if the fleet will be divided in two groups as happened in Punta Ala last year.
At 7.00 pm there will be the Official Opening World Ceremony with the main authorities of the Comunitat and Alicante. The Platu 25 fleet will fight for the World prize until next Saturday.
