THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPEEDS UP IN ALICANTE
|
 Sixty six boats are taking part in the Plaru 25 World Championship in Alicante, organized by the Real Club de Regatas of Alicante. Yesterday, Monday 19 July, the official training race took place with a joined start - all the fleet together - in which the Italian “Koppa Troopa” of Barbarisi gained the first position.
The wind yesterday was quite variable and weak (no more than 6 knots from South East), that‘s a condition that could remain for the next few days. “PIX1-Anna Mora” of Oriol Bo lead the first part of the race but the crew decided not to finish it. So at the end the Italian “Koopa Troopa” of Barbarisi took the advantage arriving first, in front of the fleet, followed by four Spanish boats: “Bribón-Movistar” of Marc de Antonio; “Carpantxo” of Laureano Wizner and Jesús Pintos; “Da Bruno-Marbella” of Pepequín de Orbaneja and “Mundo Marino Team” of Alvaro de Haro. The World Champion, the Spanish “ Mexillón de Galicia-Movistar” of Carlos and Antón Paz and the Greek “ Modus Vivendi 3Alfa” of de Kostas N. Karageorgiou, yesterday didn’t take part in the official training race.
 The official opening ceremony took place at 19.00 in the RCR of Alicante. There were the main personalities of the politics, culture and sport of the city. There were also all the yachtsmen taking part to the regatta and Juan Rodríguez Marín, President of the Real Club de Regatas of Alicante, and Edoardo Barni, President of the Platu 25 International class.
The competition starts officially today at 12.30 with three races programmed every day for four days and two races in the last day.
