A great event and a special atmosphere
The 2010 Platu 25 World Championship in Alicante was a big success in the words of Edoardo Barni

The World Championship wasn’t just competition and adrenalin, but was also high emotions, hopes and delusions, fair-play and friendship. An irreplaceable occasion to meet and know other crews coming form different Countries, a unique moment to compare ourselves with Champions and very talented yachtsmen. In Alicante there was a special warm atmosphere and all the participants felt it.

Sixty six crews came from twelve different Countries to Alicante, competing in 13 very high level races in seven very exiting days. There were boats from Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Greece and even crews from Russia (Navis Vela of M. Kasatova and Nautica Sib of I. Bezmenov), yachtsmen from Finland and Argentina!

The 2010 Platu 25 World Championship perfectly organized by the Real Club of Regata in Alicante from the 18th to the 24th of July, was also an occasion to take stock and to draw plans for the future.

Edoardo Barni, President of the Platu 25 International class, expressed his complete satisfaction: “The World Championship that has just finished here in Alicante, was all-beautiful. The Platu 25 Spanish class proved to be very closed-knit either on land or in races. The Spanish class was able also to organize a very prestigious and demanding event, considering the period of crisis that we are passing through and the fact that July is the month in which a lot of people prefer to dedicate to holidays.

The Real Club of Regata in Alicante, that hosted the event, did excellent work.
The victory of Modus Vivendi, sailed by our friend Kostas Karageorgiou, has been welcomed by everybody with an enthusiasm as great as the one I’ll be sure to find next year during the 2011 World Championship in Austria, to which everybody is invited to take part.

Especially the Spanish class, this year proved again to have a high technical profile and an extraordinary capacity in making us feel at home. Twelve nations represented by sixty six boats racing is a result that tells us how the class is getting more and more consolidated.

I would like to thank all the crews that took part in this World Championship moving from Finland, Russia, Argentina, Italy, France, Portugal and Austria, to list just some of them.

Finally, I would like to thank in a special way Fernando Lago, who was the President of the Spanish Platu 25 class for many years and now as the General Secretary of the International Class.I thank him for the splendid work performed and for the enthusiasm that he is able to lavish in every enterprise and that contributed to the success of the 2010 Platu 25 World Championship in Alicante“.
