BRUNNEN - “La Burra”, the Austrian boat helmed by Thomas Laherstorfer, conquered the highest step of the podium during the third act of the Alpen Cup that took place in Brunnen, Switzerland, last week end. The second place is for “Damaris” helmed by Guenther Prummer, followed by “Aramis” of the “Swiss Sail Art Team“, with the brothers Sigrist on board.
Even if on Saturday was impossible to race, because of the rain and the lack of wind, on Sunday twenty Platu 25 could compete three very exiting races in an enchanting site onshore Urnersee one of the branches of the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake of the four Cantons) in Switzerland. The wind was quite instable and shifty, forcing the crews to difficult tactical decision and fast riggings.
In this important international appointment for the Platu 25 class - four acts taking place on the Alpine Lakes of Austria, Switzerland and Italy - there was also a Russian boat, “Navis Vela” leaded by Marina Kasatova, besides ten Swiss teams, four Austrians, four Germans and one Italian.
A strenuous fight between “Aramis”, “La Burra” and “White pearl” (it was second in the general ranking list) was expected, but the Austrian team leaded by Michael Farthofer didn’t take part to the event and it definitely changed the situation. There was an other surprise during the regatta. The Austrian “Damaris”, after a not very brilliant start in the first race, got two fantastic first places in the last two races, gaining a very good position and obtaining the second position in the ranking list with the same points of “Aramis” that concluded third.
The German “B 52” of Felix Dorn also obtained a very good fourth place, with just one point distance from “Aramis”, followed by the German “Farrbar” helmed by Enrico Taeufer”. The leading group of the first five took a great distance from the rest of the fleet (the Swiss “Like a Vergin” is in 6th position, at a distance of ten points from the fifth).
The new 2010 Platu 25 Alpen Cup Champion will be decided in Dervio, on the Lake of Como, next weekend (4-5 September) where 17 crews are expected for the fourth and last act. In the general ranking list, now, the distance between “Aramis - Sail Art” and “La Burra” is getting smaller and smaller. “Aramis” keeps the top but it will have fight quite hard against “La Burra” to maintain the title of Platu 25 Alpen Cup Champion. An other crew to take under observation is the Swiss team of “Superbüsi” helmed by Matthias Bermejo, that concluded sixth in Brunnen and defends a third place in the general ranking list.
