
GMUNDEN- After three very competitive races, the Italian “Euz II Monella Vagabonda” owned by Francesco Lanera is leading the provisional ranking list of the first day of the Platu 25 World Championship in Gmunden. Helmed by the talented Sandro Montefusco and with Markus Sigrist as a tactician, this original Pugliese-Swiss team striked at the first effort, creating a thirteen points of distance with the seconds.
The boat has just won the II Act of the Platu 25 Alpen Cup that took place in Ebensee on the Traunsee Lake last week end. “Euz II” is an original Pugliese-Swiss team. The crew is composed indeed by the Swiss Markus Sigrist (tactic), Corrado Capece Minutolo(tailor), Francesco Lanera (piano), Elisabetta Picca (Jocker), the Swiss Lukas Gerig (Bowman).
“It was an intensive day today that showed how competitive will be this World Championship” said Francesco Lanera. “We are a good group. Sandro Montefusco gathered us- He told me that there would be this opportunity. I trust him so I accepted and considering the results, h was right”.
The local Austrian team “La Burra” helmed by Thomas Laherstorfer, one of the favourites of the Worlds, started well, with a third position, but he slip on in the second race and then conquered a third place in the last race. Now it is second with 23 points, followed by “Bribon Movistar” helmed by Marc de Antonio, just one point behind La Burra. The Italian “Nanuk” helmed by Luigi Ravioli recovered. After a not brilliant beginning, the boat from Rome conquered a second place in the last race.
The 2011 Platu 25 International Championship started officially yesterday morning. At 11 o’ clock the 46 crews that take part to the event, reached the field of regatta, a few miles in front of the Schloss Orth, the ancient Castle next to theUnion Yacht Club of Gmunden. After a while there was a general call because of the lack of the wind. The crews had to move 6 miles South toward the Segelclub Ebensee where the met a constant 15 knots wind..
The podium of the first race speaks German. The first place was indeed for the team “Kyra”owned by Hermann Müller and helmed by Lars Bähr followed by “Falkone“ owned by Falko Knabe and helmed by Cornelius Heeschen. In third position, the Austrian team “La Burra” helmed by Thomas Lahertorfer,
Compared to the first race everything changed in the second one. The first place was indeed for Bribon-Movistar” helmed by Marc de Antonio, one of the strongest skippers of these Worlds.The second place was for Euz II Monella Vagabonda”. There was still a German team in podium position: it’s Walter Lindinger’s “B 52” that concluded at the third place.
The third race started at around 5 p.m. and was very competitive. Until the last meters, three boats fought for the first place, the Italian “Euk II Monella Vagabonda”, the Austrian “La Burra” and the German “Falkone”. At the end, “Falkone” conquered the third race of the first day, followed by the Italians and the Austrians.
Today the first race is scheduled at 11. A strong competition is expected among the Spanish “Bribon Movistar”, the Austrian “La Burra” and the Italian “Nanuk” for the second place. All of them indeed are too far from “Euz Monella Vagabonda” that is 13 points up in the ranking, and they will compete each others for every single point.
