BRUNNEN – The Swiss “Superbusi” conquered the third Act of the Alpen Cup that took place in Brunnen, in the Urnersee branch of the Vierwaldstättersee in Switzerland from the 26th to the 28th of August . “Superbusi”, helmed by Mathias Bermejo with David Erismann as a tactitian, carries on leading the general ranking list followed very near by its main and direct adversary, the Austrian “La Burra” helmed by Thomas Laherstorfer with the Swiss Markus Sigrist as a tactitian. The third step of the podium in Brunnen was for the German “Randale” helmed by Ingo Lochmann, followed by the Italian “Pirillina” of Claudio and Mauro Fasoli who had to be content with a fourth place.
On Saturday, Superbusi started leading from the beginning despite the difficult weather conditions with rain, cold and changeable wind. The Swiss team commenced with a brilliant first position and it confirmed its state of grace in the first race of the second day with another first place. On Sunday the sun came out and the wind flew generous (around 15 knots) allowing the committee to give four starts. So , four races were competed just on Sunday and, after a 12th position by Superbusi”, for “La Burra” the games seemed to be open again. After a difficult start in the first day, indeed, the Austrian boat in the second day managed much better, with a fourth, a second, a first and a second position.
“The competition was pretty hard and after our bad result in the first race of the second day we had to be very concentrated” Mathias Bermejo, the Superbusi’s helmsman remarked. “On Sunday the wind was shifty and it forced the crews to change continuously tactic and strategy. We won the third Act of the Alpen Cup just one point in front of La Burra and in the general ranking list, the Austrian boat is following very near. Next week end in Bellano I won’t be able to take part to the last Act of the Alpen Cup and David Erismann will helm the boat. A big challenge between Superbusi and La Burra is expected”.
Probably one of the secret of the success of this Swiss team, until now, is the cooperation on board. Just to make an example, as Bermejo explained: “For tactics we have one tactitian for upwind (David Erismann) and another one for downwind (this time Markus Rindlisbacher). And Roland kunz and Erich Buholzer are helping with important and significant information about wind and shifts as also changing positions of boats. So you see, tactics are divided into several persons”.
In Brunnen, the crews came from all over Europe, as in the best Platu 25 class tradition. Besides the Swiss boats, there were boats from Germany, Austria, Italy and even from Russia. “Navis Vela” indeed, helmed by Marina Kasatova is taking part to the main International Platu 25 events. With a whole Russian crew, composed by Alexej Arktipov, Vasilj Engelsberg, Serghej Kaljuzhnij and Vitalj Konovalov, this talented Russian helmswoman – one of the very few in the International Platu 25 fleet – carried on sailing and racing with good results (two brilliant fourth places in this Act).
The next appointment with the last Act of the Alpen Cup will be in Bellano, on the Como Lake. Around twenty boats are expected. So in a few days, we’ll know the name of the new 2011 Alpen Cup Champion and the name of the lucky crew that will win a light jib offered by the sponsor Sandro Montefusco.
